Configure Internet/data connection
(GPRS)

To be able to install and use Skebby on your mobile it is necessary that:


  • your mobile can browse the Internet
  • the application uses the correct connection profile (or APN)

To verify that your mobile phone can navigate, open the browser on any web page and if the selected page is loading and you can surf around, then you have the necessary settings. In this case you can pass to point B directly. If the page does not load, it means that the Internet connection has not been properly set it up on your mobile and you must follow the instructions described in point A to do it.


A. Configure data connection (Internet/GPRS) on your mobile phone


Option 1 (Recommended) - Ask the call center or go to the website of your mobile operator to request to be sent an SMS with the Internet/GPRS settings.

Make sure your Internet rate is a "volume" rate (and not "time" rate) that it's usually available to mobile users for free.


Option 2 - Discover which are the correct connection profiles for your operator and follow here the instructions on how manually configure it on your mobile.
The steps to be followed to manually configure the Internet connection of the mobile are different for each cell phone model.

  • Create a new profile for the connection GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA
  • Enter some paramethers, e.g. the APN (access point name)

During the installation procedure, you'll be asked to enter some paramethers; normally, the only field you have to modify is the connection point (APN) which depends on the mobile operator of your SIM.

Follow-up the example below of an APN configured to be used for GPRS/UMTS/HSDPA connection with Vodafone. Find out with your operators which is the Access Point Name to be used to browse the Internet with a volume based rate and enter it in the APN field as described below:

Vodafone (example)

APN: web.vodafone.com
Username: leave it blank
Password: leave it blank
Authentication type: normal



B. Make sure the application select the correct Internet/data connection GPRS


Everytime the application connects to internet for sending SMS, your mobile will propose you a list of the available intenet/gprs connections. Choose Skebby if showed or the one with the name of your operator, e.g. Vodafone GPRS.
